All over Mumbai you will see dhobi wallas (laundry men) using coal heated irons. I am so fascinated by these for some reason!

Pretty smart when electricity is not available, but in other cities this is definitely something of the past era.

I worked in Sudan for three years and they used them there too. Very heavy irons and very skilful people.
I guess I never thought about that. Great photos enlighten, eh? Like Bob said, they seem like they would be very heavy.
