What do the crosses represent? In my country they are put at the roadside when someone has died there.
I am also wondering what the crosses are for. Like Louise said, in the US they put up roadside crosses where people have died. Although now they are trying to stop it (at least in Chattanooga) because they say it's distracting and can cause more accidents.
they aren't due to traffic accidents, but some are there for people who died many many years ago from the neighborhood. now they are mostly there as shrines - besides crosses there are also lots of hindu sites around town that neighborhoods will erect just as a community place to worship, give thanks, etc.
how nice to see this photograph. I grew up in these streets in the 70s, and despite all the change, there stil are places like Chapel Rd that somehow still have that old time feeling. Bandra stil has quite many places like this, such as streets around Mt Mary's church, then the streets from hill road to tuener road, behind carter road, leading into Danda and Khar, which also has roads where some old old ornate gujarati and maharashtrian houses remain, but not for long.. many of them are not being maintained, and its just a matter of time that the wrecking ball will ariive..
