vending machines

While the rest of the world has gotten rid of cigarette vending machines, Mumbai has just gotten one! And on a street corner in busy downtown. Usually the vending machines here 'come' with a man who stands beside it and does it all for you - even opening up the machine to take out your order! I didn't see anyone at this one though.

The board next to the machine says "Selling tobacco to any under 18 is congizable offence"

Who checks?

That is interesting. I did not know these machines are available in India.

Lol!

Yes, even I found it funny that the vending machines here 'come' with a man to do it all.

Even the elevators in office and residential buildings will have a 'liftman'.

But after doing a little bit thinking I thought India does not need vending machines in the first place. We have enough and more manpower. Those hands need jobs. If machines take away these small jobs it will only help unemployment.

Secondly, the attendant at the vending machine told me that he saves the machine from getting vandalised. Children or naughty youngsters play around. Instead of coins they insert metal diskettes and so on.

Lol! We too have things like tieing a rupee coin to a thread and pulling it out after a phone call is over ... hehehehe
