What is that red cloth? I guess you should try asking an auto guy.
True, they spend so much time in it, might as well make it look beautiful. I believe that the red cloth is symbolic for Durga devi. But then, I dont know much.
You will be surprised if you knew what kind of money they made. Sometimes they are better off than a person working as a clerk in a small office.
Some do spend time too much but many run their auto in 3 shifts with 3 different drivers!! Making nearly Rs. 1000 a day (Gross) of which nearly 40% is net profit :-)
I don't want to share more but if you travel regularly on these, you need to observe and learn.
Snazzy is right about the cloth. I asked that because Navratri just went by :-))
i figured the taxi drivers made more just because they are always so picky about where they will go! The auto drivers deserve to make more in my opinion -- they will almost always take you anywhere even if its just down the street!
How come I see that red cloth at other times of the year? is it used for other festivals?
Slaint,
This is like gratitude of Devi. First people take these things to Devi temple. Once it is offered to Devi it becomes prasadam. It is used as blessings of Devi. Mother is seen as feeding personality. She herself will remain hungry but will feed her kids(Litrally even today). That is the whole idea...Devi's blessings to feed the family of auto driver through work...
