The strength comes from an empty stomach and necessity.
An Indian woman growing up in pampered confines of air conditioned downtown apartment would not come across this strong.
Very true what anon has said. It is their will-power, their constant rememberance of hungry family and luxury of not having a credit card to overspend and remain in debt. Though, they could be under debt and that too like 24% APR by local pawn people.
The values and culture of India has been triving becuase of such common-villager-women.
Every woman can tell you their story and listening to it will sure bring tears to your eyes. I am so lucky to have been among them from time to time and learned so much from them. My own mom is one such who could come out of such suffering and really respect her for that and educate us that we are something today.
